Spotlight: The Gladstone Hotel

The Gladstone Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Toronto and was built in 1889 by Architect George Miller.  Located East of Dufferin on Queen Street West, The Gladstone Hotel provided accommodations to travellers from the Parkdale train station as well as visitors and exhibitors at the Canadian National Exhibition.  

Today, the Gladstone fosters and supports a healthy micro economy which drives development, small business, light industry, cultural work and good times! The hotel showcases a diverse array of events such as exhibits and performances and is a place where artists and regular neighbourhood patrons can come to hang out.

The hotel’s Ballroom, Melody Bar, Art Bar and second floor Art Spaces play host to everything from cabaret performances to film screenings, art exhibitions to wedding parties and fundraising events hosted by a vast range of artists, community groups, businesses and individuals.

The Gladstone is committed to environmental leadership in its community and is dedicated to promoting “green” practices such as recycling and incorporating environmental considerations into purchasing. The Gladstone Hotel is a member of the Green Tourism Association and Green Enterprise Toronto, and has been “green audited” since 2004. Café and Bar menus focus on locally produced, fair trade and organic ingredients and the Gladstone purchases shares in a local CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) farm.
