TORONTO, ON, May 11, 2011 – On Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5, 2011, The Gladstone Hotel in Toronto will play host to the 2nd annual Make It Arts & Crafts Show, featuring a variety of works for sale created by local artists, designers and craftspeople. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Furniture Bank, a Toronto-based charity that furnishes homes for families in need by providing gently used household furnishings from donors to their client base.

Visitors can check out works for sale from over 25 vendors located in the 2nd floor artist studios. “Vendors will be showcasing a wide range of items including paintings, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, baked goods and one-of-a-kind home and fashion accessories. Guests at the Saturday night opening party will be treated to music from local DJs The Vinyl Den and Matt Gracie and will enjoy refreshments while they shop.”  Participants have donated pieces of their work to be raffled off and all funds will be donated to the Furniture Bank. “Last year’s show was such a great success, we decided to move to a larger venue for 2011 so that we could accommodate more of Toronto’s great local talent,” explained organizer Kiran Thind, a local furniture designer.  “We’ve tried to include as many people as possible whose work involves reclaimed and repurposed materials. This ties in with the great work that Furniture Bank does not only in helping others but diverting waste from landfills.” She went on to state “Last year the event raised over $600 which covers the cost of furnishing a home for one of Furniture Bank’s clients and they were thrilled.” Linda Sicoli, a representative from the Furniture Bank who was present at last year’s event stated “Furniture Bank is delighted that Make It is supporting them while showcasing some unique arts and crafts.”

The Make It Arts & Crafts Show is open to the public between 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 5.  The Gladstone Hotel is located at 1214 Queen St. West, Toronto, Ontario.
