Kiran Thind founded Cherry Bomb Vintage in 2006. Upon graduation from Ryerson University’s School of Interior Design, she worked in residential design and always had a keen interest in furniture. After restoring a few vintage pieces for her own home, she enrolled in Mohawk College’s Upholstery program.
She creates unique furniture that combines a love of vintage glamour with bold colours and patterns inspired by sources like street art, fashion and music to complement or contrast the original piece. Kiran does custom client upholstery work, produces upcycled home decor items and collects and sells vintage home furnishings.
In early 2010 she got the idea to put together a small show where she and a few friends could showcase their talents in a fun and lively atmosphere and that's how Make It was born. She enlisted the help of Moriah Bacus whose education in event planning and experience in promotion helped make the first show a huge success. In 2011, the decision was made to expand the show to a larger venue to accommodate more participants and to be closer to the community in which both Kiran and Furniture Bank are based.
Kiran was proud to be one of the designers selected for the first ever Chair Affair in 2010, a major Furniture Bank fundraiser where local artists and designers took chairs from Furniture Bank, transformed them and donated their creations to be put up for auction. She's thrilled to be part of this event again in 2011.
